Ladder & Stepladder Training

Use ladders and stepladders safely and legally for short duration, low risk work.

About this course

Ladders remain legal access equipment when they are the sensible choice for the task. Most ladder incidents come from the wrong ladder, poor footing, overreaching or no inspection. This course covers ladder selection, the 1 in 4 angle rule, footing and tying, pre-use checks, three points of contact and when a ladder is simply the wrong choice.

What you will be able to do

  • Decide when a ladder or stepladder is a suitable choice of access
  • Carry out and record a pre-use ladder inspection
  • Set a leaning ladder at the correct angle and secure it
  • Maintain three points of contact and avoid overreaching
  • Recognise defects that take a ladder out of service immediately

Assessment

The course finishes with a multiple choice knowledge check. You need 75% or higher to pass. Marking is instant, retakes are unlimited and free, and your certificate is issued the moment you pass — including a virtual card for your phone wallet.
